IWCNSW Oct 2022 Specialty Judge’s Critique By Ms Marie Gadolin (Sweden)

I wish to express a huge thank you to the club for inviting me to judge the specialty held at Castle Hill
outside Sydney. It was a great honour and I thoroughly enjoyed my day in the ring.
I was impressed by the general quality of the hounds and the condition they were shown in. They were
handled well and were also well behaved. They were sound, strong and of excellent size. I found no
coarse heads and most bites were excellent, even though a few could have had a bit stronger under jaw and thereby less narrow bite. Bodies were great; almost all had excellent bone and feet. In some I could wish for a better bend of stifle and a little more length of second thigh. All but very few had excellent, harsh coats.
I have learned that several participants came travelling from far away to participate at this show, thank
you for that and thank you all for showing great sportsmanship. I hope you had as nice a day as I did.
I loved my top winners and think that they would do well anywhere in the world. I could have chosen to
put up any of the two (BOB and R-BOB), they both have great breed type and many strong points. What eventually tipped me over in favour of the bitch was her strong, beautiful top line, wonderful reach, tiny and well folded rose ears and really dark eyes.
However, the male pushed her hard for the win with his flowing lines, fantastic head, proud attitude and powerful rear.
I also found the quality of especially the three puppy bitch classes very reassuring for the future.
Marie Gadolin,

Reserve best bitch.

2) Tirowen Grace O'Malley A younger bitch of a lovely type. Long flowing lines. Elegant head, correct bite, nice rose ears. Long beautiful neck, generous body proportions. Excellent bone and very well angulated, covers a lot of ground on the move. Unfortunately she is not happy in the ring and needs more practice.

Open Bitch

1) CH Wulfgar Kaisu -  This bitch took my breath away as she shows virtually every breed feature that I look for judging Wolfhounds. She’s got great size and bone to go with it. Generous proportions. A beautiful head and a calm, noble expression, correct bite and the loveliest small rose ears. Beautiful nape of neck, excellent lay of shoulder and one of the best top lines I have seen in the breed, which she kept on the move. Her body is well developed with ribbing going well back and excellent width of the front. She excelled on the move. With an impressive reach and strong drive she owned the ring as the queen she is, holding her tail perfectly. Her coat was very crisp and harsh and she was presented in excellent condition. BIS and Best open in show.

2) SUP CH MacLaomainn Brigitte Je Taime -   A bitch of good size with a beautiful outline. Lovely head with small, well carried rose ears, slightly light eyes. Excellent body, unfortunately her tail is amputated. Free and stable movements, very well presented.
